If you have found your way to this website, it is likely that you’re heading into or already caught in a difficult and painful legal battle and searching for someone who will genuinely listen to and you and fight for your rights. Someone who understands the high stakes involved.

Facing a divorce, the well-being of your minor children, your financial security, your property and assets, your standard of living, – essentially all aspects of your life are on the line.

I know that family law litigation, with its complex procedures and unfamiliar terminology, can be daunting. When already dealing with the grief, stress, anger, fear, and anxiety of your divorce or any family law case, facing the Courts can feel extremely intimidating, like facing a tsunami wave that’s about to engulf you.

You need a legal practitioner who can guide you through the battlefields with expertise, empathy, and compassion, bringing peace and closure to the painful chapter of your life.

You probably came to this page wondering if I have the necessary expertise for your legal case. Let me assure you – I bring 18 years of solid experience in the legal profession to the battle.

  1. My career began in 2005 with an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from the University of Johannesburg.
  2. I completed my two-year articles of clerkship with Van Velden Duffey Attorneys and was admitted as an attorney in April 2008.
  3. I worked as an attorney for a few years until 2013 when I joined the Pretoria Society of Advocates, pursuing my dream of becoming an advocate. I completed my pupillage and passed the National Bar exam the same year.
  4. On 22 March 2013, I was admitted as an advocate of the High Court.
  5. In 2020, I became a member of the Hatfield Advocates Group, and I am still a member.

By 2015, I had already guided numerous clients through the complexities of divorce. But it wasn’t until I found myself in the midst of my own divorce in 2015 that I truly understood the emotional turmoil my clients had been facing. This personal experience sparked a profound empathy and passion within me, igniting a fierce dedication to advocating for families in crisis.

In this crucible of personal struggle, my true calling in family law was forged.

I agree with Benjamin Disraeli, who said, “Justice is truth in action”, and believe the words spoken by Jesus in John 14:6.

What is a Trust Account Advocate?

Let start by describing the role of an advocate.

Advocates are legal specialists who focus on litigation, primarily presenting their clients’ cases in higher courts like the High Court and the Supreme Court of Appeal. Advocates who specialize in Family Law may also appear in lower courts such as Children’s Court, Domestic Violence Court, and Maintenance Court.

There’s a lot of work involved before a case makes it to the courtroom. Advocates need to consult with clients, conduct thorough legal research, draft complex legal documents, consider evidence, and prepare for the hearings.

Before 2018 all advocates were referral advocates. What this meant is that they could only receive work from attorneys. Attorneys consulted with the members of the public and then referred the clients to a specific advocate at his/her discretion.

The Legal Practice Act transformed the legal profession and created a new type of legal practitioner, a trust account advocate as provided for in Section 34 (2) (a) (ii) of the Act.

Members of the public can now directly approach trust account advocates without needing an attorney to act as a middleman. This new approach is aimed at providing the public with the freedom to choose their legal representative and could potentially help save on legal fees by eliminating the need to pay for two lawyers to attend to
one matter.

WHERE IS THE PRACTICE LOCATED?

Servicing clients nationwide from my offices in Pretoria and Hartbeespoort, I provide legal services focusing on the Gauteng and North-West regions.

While I can accommodate clients across South Africa, please remember that travel costs may apply for cases outside of my primary areas of operation.

I often appear in the High Courts of Gauteng and the High Court of Mafikeng.

REFERRAL BRIEF POLICY

Please be aware that I am still open to receiving referral briefs from attorneys.

Over the years, I have established strong working relationships with many attorneys who continue to support me.

To uphold the integrity of my working relationship with attorneys, I adhere to the following guidelines: when accepting a referral brief, I work closely with the referring attorney to ensure excellent client service.

Under no circumstances do I permit clients who were referred to me by attorneys to transition to a direct brief.
